Adolescence

As I stand and stare before the mirror,
I see something sprouting out of my sides.
Shocked I see I have florescent wings like those of a butterfly.
I flap them wildly and feel my feet rise above the ground,
Harder and harder I flap them, now im floating in the air,
And scream with joy upon this newfound experience.

The vast blue sky is lit up by the sun's slanting rays,
I feel the freshness of air and the gale upon my face,
Swerving and turning I fly past pine trees who sway to
the tunes of the whistling wind,
Chirping of birds are heard echoing across the vast green plains.

As I spot a group of sparrows, I realise i've shrunk to their size,
I make a perfect landing upon a bright flower standing upright.
Oh! so soft its petals feel, as I slide down upon them
Just as I immerse myself with this unimagined happiness so everlasting,
I come face to face a young man with handsome features.
I try to reach his outstreched hands but his face begins to blur

Suddenly everything around me is shaking,
No, im beginning to shake, im confused
I recognise my old surroundings, im in my room
A shrill scream from my mother, wakes me up from my slumber
I heave out of bed and walk towards the mirror,
Hopin to see my wings again, but there's no sign of them.
I know im in the Real World now
Wishing I could merge both my Worlds,
Grudgingly I prepare myself for yet another day which goes on routinely as ever..

Lesson from a Candle

There was darkness everywhere
And with a eerie silence I was surrounded,
I groped about and found a lil candle
I lit it up as I prayed for the electricity's arrival
As I stared at the candle, I noticed so many things..

The wax melted as every tick of the clock's hand echoed
The dancing flame burned in blue, yellow and white shades
The black wick had now turned golden and
the liquid wax lay spilt all around the vicinity of the flame.

As the wax trickled down the cylindrical structure,
It grounded the candle even firmer
As the candle's size reduced every minute,
The flame's size increased that same minute.

Though in sometime, the flame would be extinguished,
That very flame was spreading light and driving away the looming darkness.
The flames saying the never-die-spirit made me think,
'live ur life to the fullest, spreading happiness wherever u go'

The Street racer

                                                                                 picture : vidya

His echoing heartbeats hit him loud and clear
as he cautiously eyed the chequered flag-waver
He revved up his 750cc kamikaze
beads of perspiration danced on his face.

With the racecourse spread over 12 miles odd
he had to swerve through a steep curved road
with city traffic and narrow coastal lines
not to forget also to dodge county fines.

With the flag-wave, the race started
through the window of his helmet
he saw his targets vroooming free
and head-on began his biking spree.

Wagering with the throttle he raced farther
his goal he realised came nearer
he licked his lips in anticipation
before long, he was in fourth position.

Illegal was the race, hooked greedy was his case
to show them all, in his haste
he nearly missed hitting an old pedestrian
he sped amid blaring horns and a faded police siren.

His steeled determination and focus
brought him close to position one
But then happened one hell of a ruckus
with a quarter mile more to run.

He was kicked sidelong by a racer
the mishap shook him but he was an acer
Losing his balance he hit a tree
but overcame it with few scratches only.

He still managed a third place
on reaching the finishing line ablaze
He earned his grand for his velocity
but rued over his bad luck hazily.

"This one last game", he pleaded abashed,
as I looked at him annoyed totally
Atlast hubby logged out off Roadrash
and devoured his supper with glee!

My Conscience

Hours kept ticking away
not knowing what to do
I left home for a little stroll
towards the fountain dew.

I kept wandering till
I came across an old pauper
He was in a pathetic state
and stared at me forever.

We continued conversing with our eyes
I was transfixed upon the spot
Images ruled my mind
of poverty and others rot.

The pain in his eyes said it all
it changed the iron hand of mine
I gave him the Rupee I had held tight
and saw his face shine.

Nature's abundance

The sky today looked its best,
With splashes of blue, orange and red,
The sun was setting in the West,
Deep inside the seabed.

Away flew a group of geese,
In a triangle high in the sky,
My mind found perfect peace,
Which in cities one cant buy.

Trees soared up like towers,
Evergreen were they,
Their reflection fell upon the rivers,
Who through the hills found their way.

Flowers in every corner swayed,
In the lush green countryside,
Their swirl and twirl never failed,
As they were stunned by the raging tide..

Fate of a Martyr

The wind floated over the flower-bed,
Till it soothed the soul of the dead,
With flowers the grave was sprinkled,
But with thorns the memory was wrinkled.

The night one thought looked haunted,
For the beauty of nature was looted,
The mournings were done for the warrior,
By the people who seemed kindler.

He who had no narcissism,
Had laid down his life for his nation,
But now there were none to remember his deeds,
Except the ever loving breeze.

For everyone continued to be merry and gay,
They enjoyed his sacrificed fruits that day,
No feelings they had for one so patriotic,
Instead for money they were more frantic.

The homages for the martyr decreased,
People were taken overy by greed,
From this they could not be freed,
For they didn't change their behaviour,
Alas! this turned out to be more deadlier.

hey friend..

I'll remember:

the outings we had,
the movies we've sat..

the code languages we shared,
the little pranks you played..

the hours we talked,
the hours we have chatted..

the badminton we played,
the sweet nothings we made..

the stories we cooked,
the future at which we looked..

the rain in which we got drenched,
the eateries where food we munched..

the cribbings about life we did,
the tensions that we tried to get rid..

The felicity your eyes show,
hope they will always glow..
You are one friend I adore,
who makes my happiness soar.

Blissful love..

When you hold my hand tight,my heart feels so light

When i thrust my eyes upon yours,
it drives away all my fearful thoughts

When you look at me and smile,
I feel so wanted all the while

The little things you do for me,
show your unending love for me

The times we are spending together,
those moments are etched in my heart forever

I feel your presence around me always,
like a warm embrace all these days

Love you so much honey,
you are the best thing ever that's happened to me..

Hope

Time's flying ; and im aware of it..

Every time I blink my eyes..
Im aware of the slippage of seconds,
Hours feel like minutes, days look so short..
Still, I see unlimited days stretched out before me

I remain a mute spectator to the changing seasons,
Noticing the green leaves turn yellow n wither away
Exposing the skeleton bark of the tree..
Still, the sunlight falls upon the lonely piece of wood

Some days are filled with ecstasy,
Some other days are equally wretched..
Still, life moves on heartily...without a pause,
Without skippin a heartbeat...

At times, it feels good to listen to the thunder,
Sometimes spring makes me a loner,
Changing moods surprise me,
Still, I tread along the path with resilience.

Times' flying and im aware of it...
The memories, my mind will still continue to hold,
As I embrace a new day that unfolds..
I hope for another gratifying day of love and care.
